Alfredo Garcia Obituary

Alfredo Garcia, 86, passed peacefully in the morning of Tuesday, the 14th of October 2025 with his family and loved ones by his side in his home.

Alfredo was born and raised in Brownsville Texas.  At 5 years old he started working as a paperboy, at 15 at Davos, 18 at JC Penny.  Upon turning 17 he enlisted in the Army Reserve and completed his basic training.  Alfredo and Eva were one of the original founding members of the Mr. and Mrs. Social Club and remained the only Charter Members for 50 years.

He began his career with the Brownsville Independent School District after attending Texas A&I in Kingsville where he completed his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. He started as a Spanish Teacher, then was promoted to Assistant Principal at Hannah Highschool, and completed his 32 year career as Principal at Central Jr. High.  After his retirement, Alfredo continued his career working for the University of Texas Brownsville as an Alternative Certification Program mentor.

Alfredo is survived by his wife Eva Garcia of 62 years, his children Javier A Garcia (Francesca), Jaime R Garcia (Veronica), and his grandchildren, Luis Garza, Ivan Garza-Garcia and Alejandro Garcia.  

Alfredo is also survived by his sibling Carolina Garcia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cruz Alfredo Garcia and Angelica Garcia, and by his brother Ernesto Garcia.

Visitation was held on Thursday, October 16th, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with The Holy Rosary at 6:00 pm.  Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17th, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Internment  followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Carolina Garcia, Javier Garcia, Jaime Garcia, Alejandro Garcia, Ivan Garza-Garcia, and Joe Lopez

Honorary Pallbearers: Luis Garcia (provider), JC Ortiz, Mickey Capistran, Hector Martinez, Romeo Rodriguez, Rene Barrios, Alcides Dreumont.

Services were under the guidance of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. 

His Favorite song: Olvídate de Todos Menos de Mi (Jose Alfredo Jimenez)

His Teaching advice: “Always write your learning objective on the board.”

A very special appreciation and Thank you to Joe Lopez and Luis Garcia from Amor Eterno who provided the daily care.  We are forever indebted to you for your time and daily attention caring for our loved one, Alfredo Garcia. It is because of special people like you that make the passing of a loved one much easier while giving comfort and care with dignity and respect.  Our Dad and loving Husband would have wanted it this way.
